A workspace promoting and advocating for Makers and Artists in Ivybridge, and the South Hams.

Built from repurposed salvaged materials, Makers Mews is housed in a 300 year old barn, overlooking the River Erme and the original ‘Ivy’ bridge our town was named after. The town’s centre (and snack supply area), on our doorstep; with the breathing space of Longtimber Woods, a short stroll away. We have 15 designated Maker spaces and 6 hot desks available. Our 3 month minimum membership includes: a bespoke area to make your own, coded entry, CCTV, high speed wifi, tea and coffee supplies, a shared kitchenette and dining area, outside seating area with a fire pit, and a discounted event space; alongside personalised opportunities to promote and propel your business.

Not just a workspace

In addition to a custom workspace, we also provide members with exterior signage; a dedicated web page- sharing your story, with links to your socials and selling sites; promotion of you and your work; connecting you with relevant opportunities to network or to sell; and finally, we back you, with access to additional revenue streams via markets, workshops, events and exhibitions. We’re helping you land the work.

We’re here for the person behind the making

Putting creative work out into the world that ‘little old you’ has made, can be terrifying. Putting yourself in a room full of others, doing, and experiencing the same emotional rollercoaster, really helps. How often do you find yourself cheerleading others, yet not taking your own advice? We all do it, so let's do it for each other. We’ll metaphorically lift you up and parade you around on our shoulders. Not only is there always someone here to bounce ideas around with, hold you accountable to your day’s goals, or folk to crowdsource advice from; we also have weekly get-togethers around the firepit to rant or rave about how work and life are going, and to share what’s new and what’s coming up.

For walkers: We are close to the top end of Fore Street, in the village. Head to the ‘snail’ car park, and you’ll see us across the road. Access is via the gate and stone steps, to the left of the building. We’re upstairs.

For cyclists: Bikes will be best stored to the rear of the building (Please note, this is done so at your own risk). Rear entry is via the metal staircase.

For drivers: Makers Mews is one of the first buildings on your right as you enter Harford Road. We are the big white stone barn, behind the billboard, opposite the ‘snail’ (you’ll see what I mean) car park. The car park is managed by SHDC, using RingGo with the app and code being: 3467

For train users: Exit right from the station gates. At the end of this path, cross the road to use the footpath and follow this parallel to the train tracks. When you come to the bridge crossing the tracks on the opposite side of the road, you’ll take the left, heading down a tree covered hill. Follow this as it winds down to the town. When you pass the Ivy Bridge on your right, we are the next building (big white stone barn, with garages beneath) on your left.

For bus users: From the Town Hall bus stop, walk the slight incline in the direction of Tesco Metro. Continue passed, passed the Morrisons also. Cross here for Harford Road, look behind the billboard, and Makers Mews is in sight.

Testimonial

“I spent a day at Makers Mews whilst camping nearby, attempting to combine precious holiday time with needed work. Of all the places I found to work in locally, Makers Mews was by far the most fun, welcoming and friendly. Nadine has a talent for putting you at ease from before you step foot in the door and provided helpfully detailed directions. Makers Mews is a paradise for the creatively minded. Inspiration and resourcefulness abound, alongside the most relatable toilet door I have had the pleasure of viewing. My cubicle was thoughtfully prepared with blankets and a fidget cushion and replete with the plentiful plug sockets and speedy wifi often lacking in cafes. Once settled, we both got to work, punctuated with occasional conversation that flowed with ease; enough time between to get stuck into the task at hand. The bijou kitchen corner provides everything needed for a mid-work refreshment, as well as a fridge and dining table for storing and eating lunch. I would recommend Makers Mews to anyone wishing to spend time working alongside others in a creative setting.” Lisa Mason, Imagine Divergent, July 2022
